In order to understand this post, you'll have to realize that I passed my German driver's test last Wednesday. Finally. The shame can finally end.
So I drove to work this morning. Not that exciting really, except that it's the first day I've done that here. Even after I passed my driver's test, we still only had one car so Gabe drove me to work in the morning. The boy picked up his Porsche yesterday and now it's all registered and insured. It sure felt funny pulling up to my driveway to see a red sports car there and know that it's ours...
Other than that, things are good. We bought a really nice TV - something we promised we would do since we couldn't ship our huge dinosaur of a set over here and it wouldn't work if we did. For all you techno geeks out there, it's a 52" LCD projection widescreen. And it's awesome. We don't have television yet but we've watched some movies.
Work is going to be getting busier b/c one of my co-workers volunteered to go to NOLA for 2 months to help with Katrina stuff. Apparently it's something we're allowed to do and it's even encouraged. I'm thinking about doing it in a few months, once things get settled down. We'll see...
Gabe and I are taking our first road trip this weekend. It's actually two road trips. We're going to Kusel on Friday - that's the big town closest to us. We actually live closer to Kusel than to Kaiserslautern. Then on Saturday we're going to Mannheim to the Ikea to look at something on which to place our ginormous tv. I know they're not the most exciting of trips, but we're getting there :) We found out that we're not supposed to drive out of Germany without an International License, so that canceled our trip to France. Oh well, we've got 3 years!

Meg,
I want you to know that I was very proud of the way you bore the shame with the license issue. You were a really good sport. And Gabe was very humble about his first time success at the test, for which he deserves much praise and a Porche.
Dad
Peter and I are checking the airfares to plan the summer trip. Is there a coffee pot??
Love AuntM
